Softball Drops First Game In Extra Innings to Riverside in CCCAA Southern Regionals

Riverside, CA – The Bakersfield College softball team traveled to Riverside to take on the Tigers in a best of three series in the first round of the 2019 CCCAA Southern Regional playoffs and came away with an extra innings loss to Riverside, 7-6. 

The Renegades got on the board first in the third inning with a run scored by Lysette Castro on an Alexis Lopez grounder. Lopez was then brought home a few batters later by Alantis Rede to go up 2-0. Riverside answered back in the bottom of the fifth with three runs to go ahead 3-2.

In the top of the seventh, Kylee Fahy tied the game up at 3-3 on a sacrifice fly to left field that brought Savannah Gonzalez home. BC brought three runs across in the top of the 9th on RBI's by Natilee Parrish, Fahy and Alex Venegas. Riverside came back with three runs of their own to tie it back up at 6-6 and go into the 10th.

The game turned into a stalemate for the next three innings until the bottom of the 13th when Riverside was able bring the walk-off deciding run across the plate and take the game one victory over the Renegades. 

Fahy started the game at pitcher for BC and went the full game with 10 strikeouts.

BC will now look to stay alive in the best of three series tomorrow afternoon at 2pm for game 2.
