BC WOMEN WRAP REGULAR SEASON WITH WIN OVER CANYONS

The Bakersfield College women's basketball team closed out the regular season in impressive fashion, downing College of the Canyons 75-72 at the Gil Bishop Sports Center Wednesday night.

The two teams were tied 13 times and swapped the lead seven times before the Renegades finally seized control of the game in the waning seconds.

Kennedy Nielson scored 24 points on 9 of 14 shooting from the floor and fellow sophomore Julie Olvera added 12 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists for BC, which ended the season on a four-game winning streak and will finish no worse than second place in Western State-South.

Marina Rojas had 25 points, seven rebounds, and five assists for the Cougars.

"It was a tough night, tonight but we got it done," BC coach Paula Dahl said. "Our defense locked it down at the end like it needed to. Number four (Rojas) she surprised us and made a lot of things, but we're just really glad to get this victory."

Santa Monica (6-1) is half a game up on the Renegades (6-2) atop the conference standings with a game left to play against last-place LA Pierce on Saturday.

BC rebounded from an 0-5 start to the season to finish 17-9 overall.

"It's been a phenomenal season," Dahl said. "I'm really sad to see it end."
