Smith and Valencia Continue their Collegiate Athletics Careers

BAKERSFIELD, CA -The Bakersfield College softball program would like to announce the commitments of sophomores Kadyn Smith and Shelbie Valencia. Smith will be attending Lee University, located in Cleveland, Tennessee, while teammate Valencia will be attending Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida.

Pitcher Kadyn Smith will continue her collegiate athletic career for the Flames under the direction of head coach Emily Russell. Lee University is a Division II school that competes in the Gulf South Conference.

Both Smith and Valencia were part of the back-to-back Western State Conference Champion team and made it to round two of the CCCAA playoffs during their two years playing for the Renegades. The two superstars led the team in home runs, sharing eight each this season.

"We are so excited and proud of Kadyn and the work she has put in to earn this opportunity. BC Softball will miss her, but we can't wait to cheer her on the next two years at Lee University," said head coach Casandra Goodman. The pitcher leaves Bakersfield College with a total of 47 strikeouts.

Infielder Shelbie Valencia will continue her collegiate athletic career for the Mocs under the direction of head coach Mo Triner. Southern Florida College is a Division II school that competes in the Sunshine State Conference.

"Shelbie has been an exciting player to watch the last two years at BC. She helped elevate our program; we are grateful to have seen her grow over the last two years. We wish her the best at Florida Southern and will be cheering for her, "said head coach Goodman. Valencia leaves BC with a total of 12 home runs, 77 RBIs, and .416 OBP.
