BAKERSFIELD, CA – Six lead changes in the first half would be nothing to sweat about as the Bakersfield College Women's basketball team held on to their lead from the final minutes of the first half and never trailed the West LA Wildcats. Freshman guard Brianna Green led the Renegades with a season high of 24 points to give BC a W, 78-69.
The Renegades came out of the gate leading in the first quarter, 23-17 with Guard Janaye Herron leading the team with 9 points.
In the second quarter BC continued to hold on to their lead despite only making 5-points before the first timeout to regroup. West LA started closing in on the `Gades with a 10-11 run and a 7-1 foul count in favor of the Wildcats but BC would prevail and head to the locker room leading 39-33.
The Wildcats had brought the game back to a one possession game in the third with three minutes left. After a minute and a half no points were scored until Green increased the `Gades lead scoring behind the arch. Sealing the third quarter lead was Herron who sunk a three to end, 55-47.
In the fourth, West LA started closed in on the Renegades with an 8-10 run before BC drew the foul to have Wildcats split free throws at 63-57. Bakersfield flipped the switch with a 6-0 run of their own before West LA would find the net again. A technical foul from the bench and a couple of fast breaks would give BC the cushion they needed to seal the deal. West LA managed to only get within 9 at the final buzzer.
