Martinez Triple-Double Leads the Renegades to Victory

BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College women's basketball team hosted the College of the Canyons Cougars in the second half of conference play and this time came out on top.  Bakersfield emerged victorious with a final score of 80-64.

The Renegades showcased a more efficient offensive performance this time around against the Cougars. Sophomore Jasmine Martinez led the team with 22 points and an impressive 10 assists, followed closely by Sydni Morris and Leila Florez, who scored 20 and 18 points respectively. According to BC's longtime statistician, Martinez is the only woman, in his 11 years at Bakersfield, to tally a triple-double. Bakersfield displayed better shooting percentages, especially in the second half, where they shot 55.6% from the field.

For the visiting team, Canyons, Jade Sims led the scoring effort with 35 points, shooting 11-35 from the field and making 7 out of 21 three-point attempts. She was supported by Hannah Tolentino, who contributed 15 points. Despite their efforts, Canyons struggled with their shooting accuracy, particularly from the field, where they shot 27.6% for the game.

Throughout the game, Bakersfield dominated various statistical categories, including points in the paint (38-26), rebounds (63-45), and fast-break points (8-4). They capitalized on turnovers, outscoring the Cougars 21-11 in points off turnovers. Additionally, Bakersfield's bench proved to be more productive, outscoring Canyons' bench 14-2.

With the win, the Renegades move to 7-14 on the season. They will head out for the road to take on West LA on Saturday before returning home for a Valentine's Day special against Glendale at 5:00pm.
