Bakersfield Starts the Season with Two Wins

Bakersfield, CA- The Bakersfield College Volleyball team opened their 2023 season by hosting the Bakersfield College Quad Tournament on Saturday, August 26th, playing against both Mt. SAC in game one and El Camino in game two. In a competitive showdown against both opponents, the Renegades took both matches but not without a fight.

Game 1 vs. Mt. SAC

BC did not want a repeat of last season's upset to Mt. SAC as they quickly took the first set from the Mounties, going 25-14 with 13 combined kills. The Gades continued that momentum, taking the second set, 25-17, and the final set 25-22. Combined, the team only had three errors in the game. Freshman Bri Bowyer was a force to be reckoned with as she ended the first game with 12 kills, while teammate Kya Jones had 18 digs.

GAME 2 vs. El Camino

The Bakersfield College women's volleyball team hosted El Camino in the day's final match and took a 3-1 set victory from the Warriors.

Renegades led the first set most of the game and won 25-14. In the second, El Camino managed to hike back into BC's lead and ended up taking advantage of the Renegades' errors to grab the next set, 25-17.

Tied at 1-1, the Warriors and BC went back and forth for the third set, but it would be Bakersfield to get the final two points needed to take the third, 25-23. The final set ended 25-18 to give the Renegades two wins to start the season off.

Setter Aubree Dees ended the game with 16 digs and 13 kills.

The Renegades will head out for the road in their next set of matches, playing in the Santa Barbara City College Quad tournament on September 2nd in Santa Barbara. The team will continue their road matches for three more after the quad before returning back home on September 20th.
