Bakersfield Starts Out Second Half of Conference with a Win

BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College volleyball team began the second half of Western State-South Conference play with a 25-16, 25-12, 26-24 victory over Citrus College at the Gil Bishop Sports Center on Friday night.

With the win, the No. 21 Renegades, remain atop the Western State South standings, one game ahead of second-place Santa Monica College.

Friday night's result is BC's second sweep this season of the Owls. The Renegades (11-5, 7-0 WSC) have now won seven matches in a row overall.

Aubree Dees played another excellent all-around match for BC. The sophomore from Tehachapi High School registered a team-high in kills (9) and assists (15) to go along with 14 digs.

Kamryn Briggs added 8 kills and 15 digs for the Renegades, who dominated the first two sets from start to finish before edging the Owls (5-17, 2-5 WSC) in an extremely hard-fought battle for the third set.

The final set was a back-and-forth affair with Citrus taking an early 6-5 lead. The Renegades fought back and went ahead 17-13. But the Owls didn't fold and won 11 of the next 17 points to get the set point, 24-23. On the brink of the match being extended to a fourth set, Haley Tedow's kill tied things 24-24. Moments later, a hitting error by Citrus, followed by a perfectly placed dink shot by Dees, clinched the win for BC.

Brianna Bowyer (8 kills), Alexandria Johnson (7 kills), and Kya Jones (22) also had productive performances for BC, which next will travel to play Canyons on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
