BC Clinches a Share of WSC-South Title with a Win on Sophomore Day

BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College volleyball team clinched a share of the Western State-South Conference championship with a 25-21, 25-14, 25-14 sweep of Glendale College at the Gil Bishop Sports Center on Friday night.

Brianna Bowyer paced the Renegades offensive attack with 15 kills. Fellow freshman Stevie Yurisk tallied 11 kills for BC, which has now finished in first place in its league five out of the past six seasons, not including the abbreviated 2020 season.

The Renegades started off the match slow and trailed the first set 20-19 before a Yurisk kill followed by a Faith Ward ace gave BC the lead. Later Alexandra Johnson sealed the first set victory with a hard kill off the Vaqueros block.

Four straight kills by Bowyer helped propel BC to 17-9 advantage in Game 2. That was more than enough for the Renegades, who performed better as the match progressed.

BC jumped out to a quick 8-1 lead in the third set, and never looked back.

Aubrey Dees led BC in assists with 17, while Kya Jones had a team-high 18 digs.

Up next for the Renegades is a home match against Moorpark College on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The match is as part of the Western State Conference Crossover series.
