The Bakersfield College Baseball team (19-11, 10-5) beat College of the Canyons (24-6, 11-4) 10-6 in Valencia Saturday to win the season series 2-1.

Starting pitcher Austin Toerner picked up the win with a six run performance where he gave up six runs, five earned, before being spelled by Cyrus Parsons.

"Parsons pitched three hitless innings and gave up only a walk to pick up the save," Coach Tim Painton said, "He mixed his three pitches well, and faced their three, four, and five hitters in the bottom of the ninth. Those guys have all hit homers in this series, but Cyrus held did a great job preserving the lead and the win."

BC got on the board early and often against the #2-ranked team in the state, starting with an RBI-double by Harrison Smith in the first inning, followed by a  Brock Hallum RBI single in the second.

Later, Harley Lopez drew a walk and set the stage for a two-run homer by Hanz Harker

"We got some key two-out hits, and the offense did a great job scoring early. But our pitching did a great job in that ballpark against that lineup. It's been a tough ballpark for everyone given that it plays small and they have some really strong hitters in their lineup…this is only the second time they've lost at home all season," Painton said.

Bakersfield remains in the top three of the Western State South division, just two games out of first place with six games to play in their season.

BC plays next at LA Valley (17-13, 7-7) on Tuesday, April 21st, at 2:30pm.
