Brooks Douglass and the #9-seeded Bakersfield College Baseball team have their work cut out for them as they take on #8 Long Beach on the road Friday.

The Bakersfield College Baseball Team (26-10, 16-5) was named the #9 seed in Southern California, and will travel south to face #8 Long Beach City College (24-12, 16-5) on Friday, May 6th at 2pm.

BC won eight in a row to close the regular season, and 14 of it's last 16 games, beginning on March 24th with a 4-3 win over #1 Saddleback College (29-7, 17-4).

"We're 26-10, and not many teams in the state won 26," Coach Tim Painton said after learning of his team's seeding, "And we've been very good on the road. I'm happy because at one point not long ago, we weren't sure we'd be in the postseason, and we had our backs against the wall for the last few weeks. But the team responded."

The Renegades were one of just 13 teams in the entire state to win 26 games or more, and one of just six in the Southern Region-with three including Bakersfield coming from the ultra-competitive Western State Conference South.

"I feel like this conference is the deepest it's been in my 21 years at BC," Painton said, "and the entire South is very competitive. I can't even begin to count how many big leaguers have come out of this division and conference."

BC saw ten players earn post-season accolades. Outfielder Brooks Douglass and Starting Pitcher Monty Stevens were both named 1st Team All-Conference.

Infielders Harrison Smith and Kyle James were named 2nd Team All-Conference, as were outfielder Hanz Harker and DH Brock Hallum, and starting pitchers Hudson Hartley and Austin Toerner.

Honorable Mentions-which aren't allowed to be voted on or nominated by Coach Painton-were catcher Jacob Herrera, infielder Luis Martinez, and outfielder Jassen Oliver

Martinez is the fourth Martinez-following his three Renegade alumnus brothers Octavio, Juan, and Rolando-to earn postseason honors .

"This team has certainly gelled. Not all of us are best friends, but we tug on the same end of the rope and that's why we are playing in the postseason," Painton said.
