BC MEN BREAK OUT IN WIN OVER LA VALLEY

BC held their ground and closed out a win over LA Valley in the opening round of the Santa Barbara Tourney Thursday night.

The Bakersfield College Men's Basketball team (7-5) beat LA Valley (2-6) 77-66 in the opening round of the to break a cruel streak of two point-or-less losses stretching back to their single digit loss to Mt. San Jacinto College in the championship game of the Thanksgiving Tournament. 
"It's a good team win, we got a lot of production from everybody," Coach Rich Hughes said. 
Frontier product Kyle Sturm and Jaylunn English led BC with 14 points a piece, with Sturm's total marking a career-high. 
"We were able to hold on to our lead, and we kept it at a distance, so I was happy with that," Hughes said. 
BC's previous three losses were decided by a total of five points, and all were decided on last-second posessions. 
"We were able to hold on to our lead, we were up by twenty at one point, but we kept it at the distance, so I was happy with that." 
Jamar Hammonds chipped in 12 points, while Delano grad Henry Galinato scored 10 points, giving BC four scorers in double-digits.
They'll play San Diego-Mirimar at 9pm Friday in day two of the Santa Barbara Tournament.
