Men's Basketball Loses Wild Home Finale to West LA

Bakersfield, CA – The Bakersfield College men's basketball team hosted West LA College at the Gil Bishop Sports Center in their final home Western State Conference matchup and came away with a tough loss, 85-80.

Prior to the game, five Renegade sophomores were honored during their final home appearance. The sophomores included: #1, Anieus Medrano (G, Bakersfield, CA), #3 Marcus Jones (G, Perris, CA), #5 Kobe Garner (G, Visalia, CA), #10 Shahadah Camp (G, Grand Rapids, MI) and #23 Jeffrey Lee (G, Grand Rapids, MI).

West LA scored the first points and continued to maintain the lead throughout the first half. Mid-way through the first half the Renegades came within one point at 17-18, but West LA would pour on the offense from there en route to a 46-22 halftime lead.

The Renegades would open the second half on a 6-0 run and go on to cut the lead to just six with 6:15 to go. Anieus Medrano ignited the BC offense, scoring 23 points in the first fifteen minutes of the second half.

With 2:57 left, Shahadah Camp would convert an inbound lay-up, get fouled and convert the ensuing foul shout to bring BC within 3 with 2:57 left. Kobe Garner would then hit two foul shots with 45 seconds left to bring them to within two. West LA would then be on the end of a few favorable foul calls allowing them to escape with the 85-80 victory.

Anieus Medrano led the Renegades in scoring with 29 points. Camp added 18 and Garner 15.

With the loss, the Renegades drop to 15-11 overall and 3-4 in conference play.

Their next, and final, game of the regular season will be on the road at Santa Monica on Friday, Feb. 22 at 5pm.
