Bakersfield Defeats West Hills Coalinga

BAKERSFIELD, CA – Broken pipes, covid related issues and postponements might have been what the Bakersfield College Men's basketball team needed with the three weeks off to defeat the West Hills Coalinga Falcons for the last game of 2021 at the Gil Bishop Sports Center,66-50.

West Hills went on the board first and led only in the first minute of the game thanks to a strong offensive first half from the Gades. BC took their largest lead at just 12 minutes by 12 points and continued to hold on to that lead into half time, 34-28.

Sophomore Eloy Medina led the Renegades in the first half with 12 points, while forward Deandre Pemberton secured 8 points. Defensively as a team, BC grabbed 29 rebounds while the Falcons had 19. In the Paint Bakersfield scored 22 with their bench scoring 16 points.

The Renegades extended their lead in the final twenty minutes of the game, pushing to as much as 21 points ahead. WHC tried to cut BC's lead, but the lack of eligible player only got them as close as 8 points.

Ending the night as the top scorer in the game was Pemberton with 14 points, followed by Medina and freshman Rahmel Davis with 12 points. Leading the Renegades defensively was sophomore Tyrell Coleman with 13 rebounds. BC scored 40-26 in the paint and 16-9 off turnovers.

With the win, the Renegades improve to 8-4 on the season and remain undefeated at home. The Gades are done for the 2021 year but will return home January 5th for the start of conference play.
