BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College Men's basketball team came up just short in a hard-fought overtime battle, falling 100–97 to West LA on Saturday afternoon at the Renegade Athletic Complex.
West LA took a 46–40 lead into halftime after shooting over 57 percent in the opening half, but Bakersfield responded with a strong second-half push. The Renegades outscored the Wildcats 53–47 in the second half, forcing overtime and sending the game beyond regulation.
Zykiar Henderson led Bakersfield with a dominant double-double, finishing with 24 points and 15 rebounds while adding five assists. Markell Brooks followed with 19 points, four assists, and five steals, while James Miller added 15 points off the bench. Zach Garnett chipped in 13 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double, and Tyron Tyler contributed 11 points.
Bakersfield shot 41.0 percent from three-point range, knocking down 16 triples, and finished with 17 assists on 35 made baskets. The Renegades controlled the glass with 42 rebounds and converted 19 second-chance points, keeping the game tight throughout.
Despite a late surge and forcing overtime, Bakersfield was edged 7–4 in the extra period as West LA secured the conference win.
The Renegades move to 9–7 overall and 1–1 in conference play and will travel to Antelope Valley College on Wednesday, January 14th before returning home to host, Glendale for a 1:00 PM tip-off.
